Alaska's Kenai River King Salmon
Alaska King Salmon are most certainly the main attraction for many visitors to the Kenai Peninsula. There may be other places that have rainbow trout, other places that have sockeye salmon, other places that have silver salmon, other places that have Alaska halibut, and even other locations that have Kings... but nowhere else can you find King salmon as big as the ones you find on the Kenai River. More Kings over 70 pounds are caught on the Kenai River than in all of the other rivers on Earth....combined!And Les Anderson put Soldotna, Alaska on the map when he landed the World Record King Salmon on the Kenai River, weighing in at an impressive 97 pounds 4 ounces! Some believe this record king will never be broken, but every year there are kings over 100 pounds caught in commercial fishing nets at the mouth of the Kenai River, so we know that the record passes under our boats each and every year. For this reason (among others) anglers travel from all over the world to fish for world class Kenai River King salmon in the lower stretches of the Kenai River

Okay, time for our year in review. let's start with the....MOST MEMORABLE CATCH OF 2011!
As you can see, it wasn't a serious hawg or anything like that, just a nice chromer. What made this catch so memorable was the lovely lady from California was able to land it with one arm! She had a great technique of using her knee to prop the rod up and then used her one and only hand to crank on the reel, and she barely got any assistance from her husband or anyone else throughout the entire 10 minute battle! it was an impressive sight that many boats around us got to witness, and one I'll never forget.
