About Fishology Alaska
Fishology ---
Mark Wackler established Fishology Alaska after growing up in Soldotna on the Kenai River, being a guide for many years, and watching the successes and failures of other outfitters in the area. Being a local means that Mark has special knowledge of all the Kenai Peninsula lodges, guides, services, and their owners & staff. Anyone who has booked through Fishology knows that this knowledge is invaluable when setting guests up with their Kenai River lodging and fishing packages!"I feel so lucky to have grown up in such a special place, and to have a family that took the time to show me just how amazing the Kenai Peninsula really is." Many of my friends in school didn't fish at all, and I secretly pitied the fact that they went through their entire childhood without their mom, dad, uncle, or anyone else showing them the wonders of fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. When I got into high school I knew I needed to save some money for college, so naturally I began thinking about summer jobs - it didn't take long for me to realize that I could make money doing something that I loved -fishing!. I got my first drift boat when I was about 15 and I might as well have lived in it for those next 2 summers because I spent the vast majority of my time exploring the various stretches of the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers on the Alaska Kenai Peninsula.
As you can imagine, I had some fun in the process. When I was 17 I started taking guests for a local Kenai River fishing lodge, and although I went through the bumps and bruises that every rookie fishing guide goes through, I realized that the only thing that I loved more than catching fish myself was helping others learn how to catch fish... I was hooked. I spent the next several years attaining my bachelors degree in Fisheries Sciences from , and then my Masters in Education at Oregon State, working as a guide the entire way through. What originally was intended to be a way to get me through college became a seasonal carrer, a small business, and my life-long passion. I now have a winter-time career as a school teacher, an amzing wife, and 3 small children that are just beginning to learn the wonders of the Alaska Kenai River, much like I did at their age."
The Alaska Kenai River and its surounding area is a very special place.
There is nowhere else on Earth that a person can have such a realistic opportunity to catch world class salmon and lots of them, gigantic halibut, trophy rainbow trout, and enjoy a multitude of recreational activities, all the while surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery one could ever hope to see.
I personally treasure our resource, and promote its sustainability through regulations that are well thought out and consumer ethics that ensure a grand experience for all of its visitors.
Fishology's Goal
is quality over quantity when it comes to booking guests. Each of our guest are extremely important.
